This event is open to all students in the Mat-Su Borough (schools and homeschool students).
This music contest is for 5th-8th grade band and choir students who wish to expand their performance abilities by learning a solo or small ensemble piece and performing it for a judge during the contest. This activity is a great way for students to get personal feedback on how they are playing and ways to improve their performance abilities.
I am proud to say that CMS will be hosting the 5th-8th grade solo and ensemble contest for Mat-Su students. The contest will be on Friday, Feb. 23, 2024. As part of that, I am hoping that many of you decide to take advantage of this opportunity. Here are some general CMS requirements for the contest.
1. Piece must be chosen by Dec. 21, 2023 (that allows time to order parts if needed at
student cost).
2. Each student or ensemble must sign-up for at least 2 lessons with me unless that are taking private lessons with another music teacher.
3. For solos, if an accompanist is need, you must get me their name Jan. 19, 2024.
4. Money for the contest is $10.00 per solo or ensemble. This must be paid in full by Feb. 8, 2024. Checks can be made out to CMS Music

5. All solos and ensembles will be performing for their music class on Feb. 20-21, 2024
These dates are real important. If you miss any of these dates, you will not be able to perform at the contest. Please mark them on your calendar. Thank you.
