This page is for families to get a basic idea of what we do in the Mat-Su.  Please contact your child's music teacher if you have questions or concerns about these events. 
 
Some 2024-2025 district music event dates (these are somewhat estimates):
Colony HS Marching Band Invitation (Saturday, Sept 20, 2024)-tentative
All State Concert/Festival (Nov 21-23)
HS Honor Band/Choir and Secondary District Honor Orchestra auditions need to be uploaded by Dec. 19, 2024
Elementary/MS Solo/Ensemble Festival at CMS (Feb. 28, 2025)
Secondary Honor Festival at CMS/CHS (March 27-28, 2025)
Region III HS Solo/Ensemble event at WHS (April 8, 2025 )
Elementary Honor Festival (April 18, 2025) at PHS (tentative date)
ASAA State HS Solo/Ensemble Festival (at UAA) (May 9-10, 2025).  

Please note: The district tries to provide all the services below at every school, but due to staffing needs/scheduling, they may not all be provided at every school.  Please contact your child's school if you have questions.  

Standards and Curriculum

Music Camps

  1. Alaska Strings Camp-at Big Lake at Camp Maranatha
    1. Dates: Elementary (Current Grade 4-6)-July 27-29, Intermediate (Current Grade 7-9) July 30-Aug. 2. 
    2. Cost: Elementary $420, Intermediate $525, Registration open till full.
    3. Important Info: 

      Located in Big Lake at Camp Maranatha, Alaska String Camps provides a musical as well as sleep-away camp experience, with orchestra rehearsals, small ensembles (intermediate), music theory and fiddling classes, as well as a lake and planned games and activities. Camp culminates with a concert for families of campers.
