This page is for families to get a basic idea of what we do in the Mat-Su.  Please contact your child's music teacher if you have questions or concerns about these events. 
 
Some 2024-2025 district music event dates (these are somewhat estimates):
Colony HS Marching Band Invitation (Saturday, Sept 28, 2024)-estimated start time is 6PM at Colony HS football field.
All State Concert/Festival (Nov 21-23)
HS Honor Band/Choir and Secondary District Honor Orchestra auditions need to be uploaded by Dec. 19, 2024
Elementary/MS Solo/Ensemble Festival at CMS (Feb. 28, 2025)
Secondary Honor Festival at CMS/CHS (March 27-28, 2025)
Region III HS Solo/Ensemble event at WHS (April 8, 2025 )
Elementary Honor Festival (April 22, 2025) at PHS
ASAA State HS Solo/Ensemble Festival (at UAA) (May 9-10, 2025).  
 

14th Annual Alaska A Cappella University, happening on Saturday October 5 at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts.

 

Once again, the festival chorus will learn 2 songs they will perform on the show that evening, with a third song they will perform along with Alaska Sound Celebration Chorus.  Music and learning tracks are available to them on the website www.alaskaacappellau.org, as well as the registration form and details about the day.

Note registration deadline is Sunday September 15th (there is a late fee for registrations after that date).

Please note: The district tries to provide all the services below at every school, but due to staffing needs/scheduling, they may not all be provided at every school.  Please contact your child's school if you have questions.

Music Camps

This will be updated as we approach Summer of 2025. 

 

Valley Performing Arts (Wasilla, AK) Summer Theater Camps: 3 sessions that are 2 weeks long (morning and afternoon per session for the most part).  June 16 (session 1 starts), July 7 (session 2 starts) and July 28 (session 3 starts).   Morning sessions are ages 7-11 years, Afternoon session are ages 12-17.  Contact info: call 907-373-0195 or go to https://vpaalaska.org/summer-program/ for lots of info and registration forms.  List of shows and some general info is here: VPASummertheatercampPlaylistInfo.pdf 

Alaska String Camp (Camp Maranatha in Big Lake area of Alaska) Summer Camp for Violin, Viola, Cell and Bass.  July 26-28 session is for grades 4th-6th grade ($425).   July 29-Aug. 1 session is for grades 7th-9th grade ($535).  Go to https://alaskastringcamps.org/ for more info.  

Mat-Su Music Makers Kids Summer Music Camp (will be hosted at Fronteras Spanish Immersion School of the Bogard Rd).  July 28-Aug. 1 from 9AM-12PM.  Focus on Singing, Dance and Play.  Geared to Elementary level mostly.   Birchtree Charter School is involved in putting this on.  To register or get more info, please email matsumusicmakers@gmail.com . 

Percussion in the Valley (in the Palmer area of Alaska) Summer Camp- June 2-6.  9AM-10:45 AM (ages 5-9) ($100 to register) or 11AM-4PM (ages 9-18) ($300 to register).  Go to https://www.percussioninthevalley.com/summer-camp.html for more info.

Alaska Children's music camp (Lutheran Church of Hope at 1847 W. Northern Lights Blvd in Anchorage, Alaska).  June 2-6 session is for ages 3-5 ($125 for 9AM- 11AM)  and June 9-13 session is for ages 6-12 ($155 for 9AM-12PM).  Go to https://www.alaskaorffchapter.org/alaska for more info. Summer Music Group and Rock Band Camp (Anchorage Music & Dance Center at 9210 Vanguard Drive in Anchorage, AK).  2 Session.  June 9-13 (9AM-12:30PM or 1PM-4PM) for 6-10 year old.   July 14-18 (9Am-12:30 PM or 1PM-4PM) for 8-16 year old.  Cost is $240-275 depending on session..  Got to  https://www.anchoragemusicanddance.com/summer-group-music-classes.html for more info.   

UAA Guitar Camp (University of Alaska Anchorage music department).  June 9-13 for grade 6th-8th grade.  8;30AM-3:30 PM.  Learn about the important elements of guitar technique, chord reading, fingerpicking, and playing together.  Go to https://www.uaa.alaska.edu/academics/college-of-arts-and-sciences/cas-summer-camps/index.cshtml for more info. 

UAF Summer music academy camp: June 2-13 (University of Alaska Fairbanks music department).   For Middle and High School students.  Various groups that cover Choir/singing, band, orchestra and other smaller groups. 1/2 day session are $425 and full day are $750.  Go to https://www.uaf.edu/music/community-outreach/summer-academy.php for more info.
