Student Teachers

Please read all the information below before completing your application.

Application Deadlines:

Student teacher/intern experiences starting in the Spring Semester are due by October 15th

Student teacher/intern experiences starting in the Fall Semester are due by April 1st

Student teacher/intern placements in the Mat-Su District are unpaid internships for students currently enrolled in a university. Prospective interns are required to submit an online application and to upload supporting documents. Please apply 4-6 months prior to your anticipated student teaching start date. Online applications are approved for placement consideration in the order in which they are received. Make sure your application is accurate and showcases your strengths. Follow all of the directions carefully so you do not slow down the approval process. Due to the increased number of student teacher applications, the Mat-Su Borough School District cannot guarantee a placement.

IMPORTANT! You must hold a current Initial Teaching Certificate or a current Student Teacher Authorization from the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) in order to student teach. Please make sure to apply in plenty of time. The process can take 3-6 months. Go to the DEED website for more information about obtaining certification.
