Child Find Screening

Child Find/Early Childhood Special Education Programs

Project Child Find includes a screening to identify any educational or physical needs that must be addressed to enable the child to fully benefit from an educational program. Children with disabilities protected under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act may require special support services that can be provided through the Mat-Su Borough School District.

  • A Child Find team screens the child in areas of speech and language development, pre-academic skills, gross and fine motor skills, vision, hearing, social/emotional development, and general health.
  • A child can receive the above screening by attending one of the scheduled Child Find sessions or by contacting one of the agencies listed on the following page.
  • Anyone living within the Borough who has a concern about his or her child’s development is urged to take advantage of this service.
  • Information regarding the Mat-Su Borough School District’s procedures for evaluation and placement of students with disabilities may be obtained at any school in the Mat-Su Borough or at the Special Education Office at 501 N. Gulkana, Palmer, Alaska 99645. To schedule a presentation about Project Child Find for your community organization, please call 907-746-9202. Project Child Find is being offered jointly by the Mat-Su Borough School District and the Mat-Su Services for Children and Adults, Inc.
  • Calendar is available on the Child Find homepage. Please call for an appointment. There is no charge for the Child Find screening. The child should wear or bring tennis shoes.
