Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year, we are going to have a great time!

I love being part of the Colony Middle School Family, and I know you will be too.  This is my tenth year teaching with the Mat-Su Borough School District.  Previously I worked in both Washington state and Florida.  I have a Masters of Special Education from The University of Alaska Southeast, where I also teach college courses for new special education teachers.  I am also currently a student myself with Capella University completing my Ph.D., so I can relate to the challenging demands that school can place on a student.  We wish to grow children into lifelong learners, and I feel the best way to teach this is through example.

I am married with three children.  My son in eleventh grade and attends Mat-Su Middle College.  My middle daughter attends Colony High School in the tenth grade and is part of their amazing choir program.  My youngest daughter attends Colony Middle School in eighth grade and is one of my teachers assistance who works as a peer partner for students in my class.    My wife is also a special education teacher; teaching elementary students at Knik Elementary.  My family and I enjoy outdoor activities.  We spend time hiking, mountain biking and geo-caching.

My philosophy of special education is based on a whole group approach where we come to gather as a team at the child’s own unique point of need.  It is my desire to help each student reach their own maximum potential, being as independent and self-determining as possible.  To help accomplish this, I have included my cell number with my information at the bottom of the letter.  Please do not hesitate to call, even after school hours, if there is anything you need.  Together we will have a great year.
