Warm welcome to our Kindergarten class! Kindergarten is a big step for a kid and I am looking forward to becoming a caring mentor and inspiring teacher to your child. I want this to be a positive year for you as a parent as well, as I consider you a partner in your child’s education.
About Me: I was born in Anchorage, and have lived across the state from Kodiak to Nome. I’ve been a commercial fisher, carpenter, ski coach, and (of course) a teacher. When I am not teaching, you might find me and my dog out hiking, skiing, hunting, picking berries, or gardening. My partner and I live in a tiny house that we built on Lazy Mountain.
Teaching Philosophy: My goal as an educator is to actively support children as they learn their place in this world. I emphasize activities in which learning is tied to student interest and to the natural world. My classroom management emphasizes natural consequences and intrinsic motivation, consistent with my belief that school is a place that guides students towards a healthy engagement with the world outside.
