Hello! This is my second year teaching 1st grade at Swanson Elementary, however it is not my first year in the school district. In my recent years, I have done time teaching in PreK, 2nd, and 3rd. And during that time, I have found that I love teaching at the primary level. There is so much to learn about themself and the world around them in their early years, and I am happy to help facilitate this growth and exploration. I believe that students learn best in a structured environment where they feel safe to discover and share.
I am originally from Pennsylvania, however I moved up to Alaska in 2007 with my family. After getting into the state sport of dog mushing, I was hooked on Alaska and decided to call it home. During the winter, you can still find me mentoring youth during the Junior Iditarod. When not at school, you can find me exploring the great outdoors with my family. Though we have no children of our own, my husband and I do have four dogs (Banshee, Dovah, Blue, and Forrest) and a cat (Ember) which my students often hear me talk about.
