Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Kirsten Wight
Hello and welcome to First Grade! I am so excited to be teaching at Big Lake Elementary again this year and look forward to working with you and your child.
I am originally from Western Washington, moving to Alaska in 2012. When I'm not at school, I love watching football, traveling, camping, swimming, and taking my three dogs running, hiking, and kayaking. I'm a very competitive person, but that doesn't stop me from cheering on the Idaho Vandals, Washington Huskies and Seattle Seahawks. Most Saturdays and Sundays during fall, you will find me taking my deep breaths and telling myself it will all be okay, winning isn't everything :).
I attended the University of Idaho earning my degree in Journalism and Mass Media and later attended the University of Washington where I earned my Masters in Education K-8. I have been teaching in Alaska since 2015 and have loved every minute of it. During my career, I've had the opportunity to work in Kindergarten through Third Grade classrooms. I have worked in multi-age classrooms, more traditional classrooms and behavior intervention classrooms. I am so excited to be part of the Big Lake family!
My goal is to aid my students in becoming more responsible, independent, self-aware, and self-motivated learners while working together in a respectful environment. I am a firm believer in open communication and believe that students, parents and educators all have a voice that deserves to be heard. Please feel free to contact me or pop in for a visit!
