• Fronteras Spanish Immersion Charter School is a K-8 public Charter School in the Mat-Su Borough School District.  We currently have 19 certified and 17 classified staff working with our 289 students. Our school provides academic instruction in both Spanish and English.  Fronteras does not 'teach' Spanish.  Fronteras teaches 'in' Spanish. 
     
    Along with core academics: English Language Arts, Spanish Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science, each student in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade rotate through a weekly Specials schedule which includes Art, Physical Education, and Music.  Students in grades 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, follow a weekly specials schedule that includes Art, Physical Education, Band, and/or Choir. 
     
    Fronteras is a Capturing Kids' Hearts School (CKH), which focuses on personal responsibility and self-management. Because of our dedication to CKH and successful implementation, Fronteras was recognized as a National CKH Showcase School in 2016-17.  We are excited and proud to be nominated for the 2017-18 school year as well.  We anxiously await final announcement.
     
    Fronteras students attend school from 8:00-2:35pm Monday-Friday.  Fronteras follows the MSBSD calendar with the exception of five (5) early release Fridays.  Students are dismissed at 12:30pm on early release Fridays.  Staff uses this time for professional development trainings, content/curriculum mapping, data review, etc.
