    WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!

We're excited to see everyone back after the great summer we've had!

We want to welcome all of the new Kindergarteners to Tanaina Elementary.

A few things to remember to start off the new year:

    1) We have a TON of playground equipment here for the students to use during recess.

We ask that the students do not bring their own balls and other playground equipment from home.

    2) Please do not let your student bring any toys to school UNLESS it has been approved by their teacher.

They end up getting brought out to recess and then if they get lost or broken it ruins the rest of their day and interferes with their learning.

    3) We have had some GREAT weather this summer, BUT we do live in ALASKA and the weather can turn in a matter of minutes.

Please make sure that your student is dressed and ready for any weather that may occur.

It breaks our hearts to see the students miserable because they do not have the proper clothing.

    4) We have a great student population here and have VERY LITTLE bullying!

We strive very hard out at recess to teach kids how to deal with and rectify any disagreements and/or differences.

Here's the model that we teach the students to use when something happens:

1] The first time something happens say, "Please don't do that, I don't like that".

2] If it happens a second time say, "I asked you not to do that because I don't like that.  If you do it again I'm going to tell an adult".

3] If it happens a third time go straight to an adult and tell them what's going on.

IF THERE IS EVER A TIME THAT YOUR STUDENT DOES NOT FEEL SAFE, FOR ANY REASON, THEY NEED TO TELL AN ADULT RIGHT AWAY!

Please feel assured that if there is any type of physical, inappropriate or ganged up on situations, then we do not want the students to follow the above model, we want them to tell an adult right away and we will immediately deal with the situation.

We look forward to another great school year and hope that your student LOVES recess!
