John Gardner

My name is John Gardner and I am the Principal at Knik Elementary School. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, share a little of my background, and convey my hopes for the upcoming year. I am originally from Kansas and graduated from Kansas State University.  Through my career I have earned two Masters Degrees in Education, most recently from UAA in Educational Leadership.  This will be my 16th year working in the Mat-Su Borough School District, which I truly believe is the best school district in Alaska. I spent the first ten years of my career as a teacher and program coordinator in the areas of Math & Science before becoming a Principal.  Outside of school, my wife and I have three children who are 12, 9, and 7. They are a constant source of fun, humor, and amazement. Like many families, we stay busy with student activities and enjoy spending time outdoors in our beautiful state.  I am very excited to be starting my third year as Principal of Knik Elementary and I am humbled each day to work with the Knik staff as they are without a doubt an outstanding group of dedicated educators. Know that my number one goal for the upcoming school year is that we deliver high-level academic achievement and growth for every student. At the same time, Knik Elementary will continue to offer a full and robust array of extra-curricular activities and enrichment opportunities. As our school year kicks off, I look forward to getting to know all of our students and families. Know that I always keep an open-door policy and welcome questions, comments, or concerns at any time. Please do not hesitate to call, email, or just stop by the school. The Knik Elementary Staff and I are committed to making sure the 2019-20 school year is positive and productive for each and every child.
