Mrs. Cunningham's 7th Grade Life Science

Welcome! I look forward to working with you for the 2020-2021 school year.  This is my fifth year teaching at PJMS and my 8th year of teaching! I am excited for the opportunity to be teaching Life Science this year and help students to learn about the living world around them through scientific investigation and discovery; while enhancing their experiences using technology as a collaborative tool.

I graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a Bachelors in Biology in 2007. During this time I interned at the Anchorage Zoo and then at the Honolulu Zoo. After graduation, I traveled to Portland Oregon where I worked at the Oregon Zoo in Educational Outreach before I completed my Masters of Education at Portland State University in 2011.

From an early age, I remember visiting zoos and aquariums and questioning the ways in which animals behaved. I was fascinated with chimpanzees and orangutans. How was it that organisms could be similar yet so different? The mechanisms of life had peaked my interest. However, it wasn’t until my first biology class in high school that I discovered my unwavering passion for the life sciences. These early experiences inspired me to continue asking questions about how life works and to seek out the answers through my studies and my work. It is my pleasure to take my passion and be able to share it with my classroom.

I have a great love for the outdoors and sports. Some of my personal hobbies include: fishing, biking, camping, running, playing volleyball and basketball. I am also an active coach at PJMS. GO MOOSE!
