I am excited to be working at Knik for another year as a special education resource teacher and tier 3 interventionist. I began teaching in Mat-Su Borough in 2013 after completing my Bachelor's degree in elementary and special education. In 2015, I completed my Master's degree in special education. Helping students close the gap between where they are and their grade level expectations is my passion.
All curriculum used in my classroom are in the direct instruction format and have consistently had great results in helping our students close the gaps in their academic learning. Curriculum assessments typically occur every 10 lessons. Homework is given in my math group Monday through Thursday, except on days when we have a test or other activity during our math instruction time. The homework will be brief and should not take students more than 10 minutes per night to complete. Homework for my literacy group is a passage to read each night, Monday through Thursday, while being timed for one minute to increase fluency. The passage should be returned each Friday with the chart completed for how many correct words the student read each night. Time spent reading the passage may be included on home room reading logs.
Students in tier 3 interventions are progress monitored each week for each subject area in which they receive support to ensure they are making appropriate progress in the academic areas of concern.
Feel free to contact me at any time with your questions or concerns.
