This is my 15th year teaching in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District! Over the years I have taught from the 2nd grade through middle school. For the last 6 years I have taught 4th grade and I love it! In 4th grade we study the state of Alaska and the salmon life cycle. The highlight of the year is dissecting salmon.
I am not a life-long Alaskan, but I feel like it. I moved to Fairbanks, Alaska from New Jersey in 1975. Boy, what a culture shock! But my family loved it here, so we have stayed. I graduated from Service High School in Anchorage a long time ago and then attended Washington State University for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. Go Cougs! My teaching certificate was earned at Western Washington University. In 2014 I was selected as a BP Teacher of Excellence.
In addition to teaching 4th grade I also coach Shaw's Science Olympiad and Math Olympics teams; head the 5th grade Robotics Club; organize the school's Geography and Spelling Bees; and represent elementary schools in math on the district's Curriculum Council.
