    Dear parents and students,
Welcome to our class and 5th grade at Butte Elementary School!  I am very excited about our year ahead.  I anticipate a great year filled with explorations and accomplishments.  It will be a year of learning and growth as students, teachers, and parents collaborate as a team to create the best possible outcome for each student individually, and our class as a whole.  Our classroom community will be grounded in mutual respect, a comfortable environment that invites all questions, and a passion to make learning a life-long adventure.
Please allow me to introduce myself.  I began pursuing a career in education by attending the University of Alaska, where I received an undergraduate degree in Education and History.  I have been teaching for many years and very much enjoy being a part of our community.  I thoroughly enjoy seeing students put their creativity to use while taking their writing to new heights.  I have been fortunate to teach several grade levels over my career.  Currently, I teach fifth grade every other year at Butte Elementary. I am the current TAG coordinator at our school.  I have also been involved in coaching advanced mathematics, Science Olympiad, Robotics, Yearbook, and other activities. I enjoy the thrill of facilitating students in their learning process.  This is my twenty-third (I think) year in the Matanuska School District and I am extremely excited to be teaching fifth grade.
In my free time, I enjoy exploration traveling, hiking and biking locally, working with my hands and spending time with friends and family.  This summer, I had the opportunity to visit Hawaii with family and friends where we had many adventures.  One memory that sticks out was skin diving with my family and finding beautiful seashells.  I enjoy sharing with students my experiences, knowledge, but most of all, I enjoy helping students reach their full potential in a positive manner.
In the weeks and months ahead, we will experience mathematics hands-on, investigate the world of science, discover our nation’s history, delve into our imaginations through literature, attend the Challenger Learning Center in Kenai, gardening and much more
