Mrs. Dorothy Hrncir

Welcome to 7th grade English Language Arts and English 1!

My name is Dorothy Hrncir, and I am excited to be working at Colony Middle School again this year. I have taught various subject areas in our district for many years. At Colony Middle, I will be teaching Language Arts and English 1. As a parent, I understand the importance of knowing what your child does in class. I will post every day in Google Classroom an announcement called Today’s Tidbits which states what we did for the day. I encourage you to login to the Google Classroom with your student to stay abreast of classroom happenings.

The best way to contact me is by email:   dorothy.hrncir@matsuk12.us

I encourage you to contact me with any questions or concerns as I want to keep the lines of communication open. I will do my best to return all emails promptly.

What your student needs to bring to class:

-One bound notebook for journals (for English 1)

   - Pencils (We will be doing a lot of writing)

   - A personal book for reading (Library visits will happen in class)

   - Note cards for collecting vocabulary/cultural literacy terms

Weekly happenings:

(These are scheduled tasks that you should be aware happen every Monday and Friday)

Monday: Students will be given five vocabulary words and, for English 1, five cultural literacy terms. It is the responsibility of the student to collect the words/terms and study for Friday’s quiz.

Friday: Vocabulary and cultural literacy quiz. If it is a short week, the test will be postponed until the following week.

The weekly schedule is subject to change as the need arises or the school and district calendar interferes with the weekly schedule.

Makeup work:

If your student is absent, log in to the Google Classroom with them and check to see what they missed. I will post a summary, called Today’s Tidbits, of what we do in class every day. If you are planning on an extended trip or know your student will be missing, see me before you leave, and I will arrange for an alternative assignment or give you the work ahead of time.

Late Work:

Late work will not receive full points. All late work will need to be turned in by the midterm deadline or the end of the quarter deadline to receive partial credit. These deadlines will be communicated to the students and posted on the Google Classroom. Full points are not awarded for late work.
