    Happy SUMMER Musk Ox!

I have dearly missed being in the gym and outside on the field with you this last Quarter while laughing, talking, sharing and learning.  It has been a struggle to teach without the experience of this wonderful LIFE with YOU, but WE did it!!!  I wish you a safe summer with the outdoors, your family and your pets.  Please make healthy choices and I will be looking forward to seeing you ALL in the fall!  If you haven't already, please consider joining our Machetanz P.E. Facebook page.  I would love for all of us to stay connected!!

    Stay Musk Ox Strong,
    Mrs. Hayes

    Hey, Musk Ox families!

We may still not be able to attend school and participate in Physical Education with our friends...

But you can still get out and play. Daily physical activity can make a big difference in how you feel right now. It improves your mood and eases your stress. Just one session of activity can help you feel less anxious and improve your sleep that night. One session can also lower your blood pressure and improve your body’s ability to keep blood sugars level.

    • You can do indoor and outdoor activities as a family.
    • You can have a great time doing simple things. Puddle-jumping is free, and chasing bubbles is fun.
    • You can hike, bike, walk and run — just remember to stay at least 6 feet away from non family members.

So get out and go play.

    And do it every day.

    Healthfully Yours, Mrs. Hayes

    Hey, Musk Ox families!

Can you believe it is the first week of May?  Spring has definitely arrived with warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours!  This makes for many opportunities to go for a walk, ride your bike, play tag, or even go explore a new trail in our community.

Outdoor time is the antidote to screens!  The counterbalance to screen time is movement and physical activity, so get outside.  Balance screen time with physical activity by building in 60 minutes of daily physical activity that increases your heart-rate.  Remember, your activity time does not have to happen all at once.  You can add up your total activity time throughout the day to equal 60 minutes.

If you are looking for physical activity ideas, to the left of this page you will find tabs to Exercise Workout Links, Explore Mat-Su Trails, P.E. Moving & Learning Activities, Nutrition Fun, a communication P.E. Blog, Homework = FUNwork, P.E. Facebook link...  Please check out the tabs regularly as new activities are added daily.  There is something for everybody!

    Hey, Musk Ox families!

I cant believe it is already week 6 of this thing called "Distance Learning!"  I can't say that I have been enjoying this new way of teaching & learning but one thing is for sure, I am missing ALL of you horribly!!  Your smiles, your laughs, your encouraging words to one another when learning a new skill, your high-fives and your aha moments when something finally clicks! But like I say... We've got this because we are Musk Ox Strong!

As always, within your daily routine don't forget to balance screen time with physical activity by building in 60 minutes of daily physical activity that increases your heart-rate.  Remember, your activity time does not have to happen all at once. You can add up your total activity time throughout the day to equal 60 minutes.  Don't forget to record your activities onto your April activity log.  They are due by May 4!  Your activity log is your P.E. documentation that you have been staying physically active while we have been apart.

    Hello, Musk Ox families!

I hope you all are starting to settle into a routine with distance learning.  Within your daily routine don't forget to balance screen time with physical activity by building in 60 minutes of daily physical activity that increases your heartrate.  Remember, your activity time does not have to happen all at once.  You can add up your total activity time throughout the day to equal 60 minutes.  Don't forget to record your activities onto your April activity log.  They are due by May 4!

YOU are AMAZING! And because you are so amazing please remember to take care of your body, your mind, and your heart!  It all goes together to take care of the best YOU!!!

Remember that this is a great time to practice selfcare in the form of physical activity and getting outdoors to enjoy fresh air and nature with family.  Physical activity is so important for kid's physical health, but also for their mental health.  The national physical activity recommendations say physical activity can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, which may be showing up during this challenging time.  So get the family up and moving everyday.  It's good for the mind, body and soul!

Did you know that the Centers for Disease Control says kids should be getting 60 minutes of daily physical activity?  For us adults, the CDC recommends a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous exercise a minimum of 4 days per week.  While in school, your children attended a 45 minute PE class every 3 days per week, and enjoyed 30 minutes of daily recess. While at home, encourage your kids to still get OUTSIDE for a minimum of 30 minutes a day, and I'll do my best to provide you with lots of ideas to keep your kids active indoors and outdoors to reach that 60 minute goal. Check out the links to the left of this page for some fun activities to get you up and physically active!  Dont forget to recors all of your physical activity on your April activity log!

Let's keep getting through this together, keeping all of our Machetanz Musk Ox happy, healthy, and learning!  WE are Musk Ox STRONG!  If you have questions, comments, or suggestions, please don't hesitate to reach out via my email: christa.hayes@matsuk12.us.

Physical education DURING AT HOME LEARNING

School closures and distance learning are never the preferred option when it comes to physical education.  However, I am confident that our community will continue to be Musk Ox strong!  Our Machetanz staff have been working very hard on creating meaningful & purposeful lessons to continue your child's education while staying connected during this time.  As your child's P.E. teacher I will do my best to bring you creative & meaningful opportunities to stay moving, learning and connected!

Please stay up to date with physical education by checking the tabs in the menu to the side of this page.  Here you will find resource links, videos, physical activity challenges, activity logs, P.E. blog, activity calendar, kahoot...  We will also be communicating and sharing on our Machetanz P.E. To the parents of my amazing students:

When your child comes home from school each day, please do not ask him or her, "What did you play in P.E. today?" Instead, ask, "what did you learn in P.E. today?"

Children learn best when they are given the opportunity to explore their world while moving. My students do not just play games. They learn something new each day.

In a quality physical education program, students learn:

    • how to improve their overall fitness
    • to perform a variety of skills
    • to be responsible for their health and fitness
    • how to set achievable goals
    • to cooperate with others and accept responsibility for their own behavior
    • to socialize with their peers
    • and to be confident, independent, and exhibit self-control

Physical Education isn't just playing games. IT'S ABOUT LEARNING, TOO!

Do you want to help be a part of shaping Machetanz’s student body, both literally and figuratively?  You can do this through our P.E. classes at school.  Children need to see examples of real-life role models to help them develop and value a healthy and active lifestyle for life.  Do you have a sports skill you’re willing to demonstrate?  Are you willing to participate among eager learners?  Turn a jump rope?  Pass soccer balls?  Be a spotter during tumbling?  Run a stop watch during fitness testing?  Give high-fives with a smile?  Punch Mileage Club cards during recess?  Share a favorite healthy family snack idea or recipe to be published in our P.E. Footnotes?  Share fundraising ideas to be able to go on active filed trips and purchase new equipment for our P.E. program?  If you would like to come and volunteer your skills, enthusiasm for staying healthy, or to just lend a hand and a smile you can call Mrs. Hayes at 864-2339.
