    How to Help Students Prepare for 3rd Grade

     

    This list focuses on several key skills that your child will need for success in 3rd grade. These skills form the foundation for many of the concepts we will be covering during the year.

     

    • Addition and subtraction facts memorized to 20
    • Reads and writes 3-digit numbers up to 999
    • Writes a complete sentence independently (capitalization and punctuation)
    • Correctly forms printed upper and lower case letters (incorrect formation impedes cursive instruction and mastery)
    • Reads grade level appropriate literature at 85+ words per minute and accurately retells what s/he has just read
    • Accurately spells this list of 25 words:
