Be independent with organizing school folder and supplies, tying shoelaces, and putting on winter snowgear.

Practice reading on a regular basis to develop fluency and decoding skills. Students should be able to read at least 55 wpm at the beginning of second grade.

Build problem solving skills with games like checkers, Connect 4, etc.

Automatically know basic math facts to/from 10 (add and subtract).

Practice identifying coins and counting amounts of money.

Practice legible handwriting using upper and lower case letters appropriately.

Practice writing complete sentences with correct beginning capitalization and ending punctuation, and with neat and correct letter formation.

Take time to observe and discuss nature.
