Hi! My name is Wendy and I am Your School Nurse.

Welcome to my online office! As we begin this 2020 school year, I begin my 14th year at Mat-Su Central School. I am grateful to offer our community my dynamic school nursing practice and look forward to a new professional challenge as I shift my efforts to Mat-Su Central School, the Mat-Su Borough School District's home school community. I spent 13 years at Wasilla Middle School and am profoundly grateful for all the years serving families in that setting. I graduated nursing school from UAA in 2005, spent two years as a psychiatric nurse with children and adolescent acute patients, and utilize this foundation as l care for all students now, especially those with emotional and behavioral needs. If your student has a 504 Plan, I am one of two coordinators for Mat-Su Central.

Our school district is Trauma Sensitive and I spent four years as the Trauma Team Lead at WMS, slowly helping shift the mindset to understand how trauma effects our students, their families, and our community. I am aware of how trauma can effect student learning and behavior,  I am sensitive to our students, and help our students to find success emotionally, socially, and academically. This includes recognizing that we all have triggers to trauma and to bring sensitivity to each of our interactions with our students, parents, families, and staff, especially while developing individual care plans. One of my professional highlights is creating the after school program Brain Train, a trauma sensitive, mindfulness based class. I hope to share some of my expertise with Mat-Su Central in the coming years.

I'm an adventurer and you'll find me on dog walks, mushroom and moss forays, hiking, biking, and snowboarding in our beautiful mountains, while my three dogs and wife are at my side. I enjoy photography, colored pencil drawing, and am the President & Founder of my own company, Path of the Heart, that reaches into the community to promote kindness and following your passions.

I look forward to serving you and your family. To my fellow school nurses, wherever you might be, I look forward to working with you to build 21st Century School Nurses across the globe.
