I am currently a teacher at Redington Jr./Sr. School. I teach two sections of MS Language Arts Strategies, one section of 6th grade reading/writing, co-teach one section of 6th grade Connections and one section of MS Leadership.
I moved to Alaska in 2004 after graduating from Grand Valley State University in Michigan. I figured if I could not get a job within an hour of family, I might as well have an adventure. So, I packed up my stuff and headed across the country riding shotgun with my grandpa and headed "North, to Alaska."
My first year teaching was spent in the Anchorage School District teaching students with severe and profound disabilities, followed by 12 years at Teeland. There, I was a resource teacher for 7th grade, taught on a specialized team in 6th grade with a focus on basic writing skills, served as a special education teacher, taught Read180 for two years before transferring to 7th grade social studies. I finally landed in 6th grade social studies and I loved it! This year, I am teaching multiple sections of intervention classes.
This is my third year here at Redington! I’m excited for this year!
I love getting outside and going on adventures with friends. I discovered how much fun it is to kayak a couple years ago! So last summer I bought one of my very own. I love spending time with family, which means that I will venture out of state to Michigan once or twice a year.
Please feel free to use the e-mail link below to keep in touch throughout the year.
