    Woods Miller graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 2002 with a Bachelor's degree in Music and earned his Master of Music Education from the University of Illinois in 2009. He has been teaching music in public schools since 2004. Prior to coming to the Mat-Su and teaching at Tanaina Elementary School, he was a music teacher in Edwards County, Illinois where he taught pre-school through 5th grade general music, beginning band, middle school band and middle school choir at Albion and West Salem Grade Schools. While in Edwards County his middle school band competed and succeeded in many district and state band contests and marched in several local parades. Also while in Illinois he founded and conducted the Edwards County Community Band for one summer. He has also taught privately on the trumpet and guitar intermittently for the past 15 years.
    Woods Miller has served in the Air National Guard since February of 2000. Nine of which were in the Air National Guard Band of the Midwest stationed in Peoria, Illinois where he played the trumpet. Presently he serves as a Senior Master Sergeant in the Alaska Air National Guard's 176th Wing as an Air Transportation Specialist stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base. He served a deployment to Kandahar, Afghanistan in service of Operation Enduring Freedom for six months where he earned the Air Force Commendation Medal.
    Woods Miller's principal instruments are the trumpet and guitar. He started on the clarinet in sixth grade but switched to the trumpet in 8th grade. He has played the guitar since his freshman year of college where he played in three independent bands, named: Second Grade, The Middlemen and Swango.
    He and his family enjoy the many outdoor recreation activities in Alaska and has volunteered as a cub scout den leader, youth and high school softball and baseball coach, umpire and board member.
