Drinking Water Program

MSBSD Notice to the Public - August 1, 2017

This page is for informational purposes only to make our community aware of water monitoring and reporting requirements for school district water systems. MSBSD is responsible for monitoring non-transient, non-community water systems, basically a public water system that regularly supplies water to at least 25 of the same people at least six months per year, but not year-round. This generally includes schools that utilize wells for their water source, whereas schools that utilize city water are considered community water systems and fall into different guidelines.

MSBSD adheres to United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the State of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Drinking Water Program water system monitoring and reporting guidelines. In the event of an elevated test result, MSBSD is required to disseminate a public notice. MSBSD will disseminate public notices by posting them in the school and sending them out via email to the affected community. Additionally, the public notice will contain public education materials, which outline the health effects that can result from exposure. Water testing is continuous throughout the school year.

For more information or questions regarding the water monitoring program, please contact the District Facilities Department at 864-2001. Additional links to EPA and DEC sites are provided below. The DEC site provides specific information regarding testing results at schools across the District.
