            Dear Teeland Families:

It is wonderful to be back at school with your students again! TMS staff are working hard to build personal connections and make sure that your students are getting the academic courses and supports that they need. We are finishing up MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing this week, and our math teachers will soon be doing diagnostic math testing with the new math curriculum. Our new Spanish and Home Ec. programs are off to a great start, and our preschool students started school last week. We have a lot to be thankful for as we continue to navigate this challenging time.

One of my priorities, as an administrator, is to communicate accurate information to our school community. TMS has had 27 positive COVID-19 cases reported to our school nurse since the school year began. We are currently operating in the “Medium” Risk zone. Our students and staff are required to wear masks until our active cases are reduced. We also have many students out of school for health-related concerns that may, or may not be, related to COVID-19. Yesterday approximately 25% of our students were absent. Thank you for your continued support as we follow district guidelines and work to keep school open.

TMS is currently the largest in-person middle school in the district. We have 797 students currently enrolled. Our hallways feel very different than last year when we had 650 students in school and 100 students in our At-Home Learning Program. Our students are doing a great job adjusting to this change and many students are successfully transitioning back after being home schooled last year. Children are amazingly adaptable! When parents and school staff work together, our kids will succeed.

As we move forward our staff will be using the data gathered from the assessments previously mentioned, to make sure that your student is correctly placed. This means that your student may have a schedule change. If this is the case, your student’s counselor will reach out to you to let you know the recommended changes. Feel free to call me directly with any questions or concerns.

Tomorrow is the first Cross-Country Meet of the season. It will be held at Redington Jr/Sr High, at 3:00. Please join us in cheering on our team as they STRIVE to do their best!

            Jo Ann Hinds, Principal
