    Also, the AP exam was recently overhauled and there are a couple questions you do NOT have to complete for the summer AP questions. The AP exam no longer covers molality and freezing point depression calculations. Thus you do NOT need to solve 1991 #c (but you need c's answer for d) and 1998 #b. Also, I wanted to let you know that the 1993 question is super advanced. You can find the answers online, but I wanted you to be aware so that you did not assume you needed to have this answer easily figured out. :) 
     
     
     
    AP chemistry is a COLLEGE COURSE taught in the high school. Colleges expect a student to have an "equivalent" experience to their freshman course for science majors, including the laboratories, and to have mastered most of its content. Many colleges give credit for introductory chemistry to applicants with a score of 3 if they are non-science majors, but few will accept a score of 3 for credit if the student is a science major. They require a 4 or 5.
     
    Each student and parent should not be surprised by the course requirements that are in excess of what you would expect from a regular course. It is not unusual for a student to be responsible for several assignments at the same time. Please note that grades in AP courses are weighted on a 5 point GPA scale in the Mat-Su School District.
     
    To accomplish as much as possible, this year I am going to try and NOT have students take notes as lots of time is saved from them not writing. I have outline notes for each topic linked below. There are many exercise problems embedded in the notes. Those I do not cover in class should be completed independently by the student. It is imperative students are actively listening while I lecture by highlighting, underlining, completing exercises, and adding to the notes as we go.
     
    Please remember that passing this test is hard and requires great effort. Each unit will have a HARD test composed of approximately 30 multiple choice problems, 2 longer response, and 2 shorter response. This format is similar to the AP test. And like the AP test, there will be questions the student has never seen before and they need to problem-solve as best they can. Each of these tests will have a curve similar to the AP exam. Basically, a 75% on the test will be recorded as 90/100 in the grade book; a 65% on the test will be recorded as 80/100 in the grade book; and a 55% on the test will be recorded as 70/100 in the grade book. Students will have opportunities to review their graded exams on specific days BEFORE class starts or during advisory (not during class time).
