• Laws and Regulations

     

    Programs, activities, and employment practices of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District shall be free from discrimination based upon race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identification, religion, age, marital or parental status, physical or mental disability, pregnancy, or any other unlawful consideration. This policy is consistent with all applicable state and federal equal employment and educational opportunity laws and regulations.

     

    Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967

    Prohibits employment discrimination against persons 40 and over. Alaska law also prohibits age discrimination in employment regardless of age.

    Alaska Statute 18.80.220
    Prohibits discrimination in employment on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, marital status, change in marital status, pregnancy, parenthood, age, physical or mental disability. 

    Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990; and ADA Amendments Act of 2008
    Prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities and requires an interactive process to determine if reasonable accommodations that would allow an employee to perform the essential functions of the position. 
     
    Requires all employers subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA) to provide equal pay for men and women performing comparable work.
     

    Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008

    Prohibits discrimination on the basis of genetic information with respect to health insurance and employment.

     

    Pregnancy Discrimination Act

    The Pregnancy Discrimination Act extends Title VII protections and prohibits discrimination in employment on the basis of pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions .

    Title VI of Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1991

    Prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance.

     

    Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1991 

    Prohibits discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin in all employment practices, including hiring, firing, promotion, compensation, and other terms, privileges, and conditions of employment.


    Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972

    Prohibits sex-based harassment or sex discrimination in all school district programs and activities including: employment, benefits, admissions, athletic and physical education activities and facilities, financial aid, health services, counseling, and access to course offerings.
