    Sexual Harassment and Sex-based Discrimination

     

     

     

     

    Title IX   

    Sexual harassment involving students

     

    Sex-based discrimination (including sexual harassment, sexual violence and gender-based harassment) and sex discrimination in educational programs and activities is prohibited under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) of the U.S. Department of Education is the federal enforcement agency for Title IX. Sexual harassment in schools is also prohibited under Alaska law. The Alaska State Commission for Human Rights is the state enforcement agency.

     

     

     

    Title VII 

    Sexual harassment in employment

     

    Sexual harassment and sex-based discrimination in employment is prohibited under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is the federal enforcement agency. Sexual harassment in employment is also prohibited under Alaska law. The Alaska State Commission for Human Rights is the state enforcement agency.
