    Beginning Band

The band program at Tanaina Elementary School provides the opportunity for students to further develop musicianship and for an increased number of musical performances. Band offers a unique experience as members are exposed to artistic and emotional expression unique to instrumental music, it exposes members to other cultures and their own culture and national heritage in a way no other subject has to offer. It also offers achievement and accomplishment beyond the regular classroom. Students will rehearse in a large group (full band) setting as well as attend sectionals to develop technical proficiency relative to their own instrument.

Due to schedule limitations, Tanaina offers instruction on Clarinet, Trumpet and Saxophone only. These instruments serve as great starters for all other instruments in the wind band ensemble. They provide ease of playing for 10 year olds and are generally more affordable. We do not offer instruction on orchestral instruments, guitar, piano, banjo or harmonica.

Students attend two full band rehearsals and one sectional each week, for a total of three lessons per week.
