Welcome to Western Hemisphere Studies!  Here is an overview of what you will need for this class, how you will be graded, and some basic class procedures.

    Required Materials

    • Notebook
    • Folder (2‐pocket portfolio style)
    • Pens and pencils
    • Red pen
    • Highlighter
    • Basic art supplies such as colored pencils, scissors, and markers.

    Textbook

We will be using Prentice Hall’s World Studies Series of textbooks. All readings will be done in class, so students will not be issued a textbook to bring home.  We have a class set of the texts, and they are to remain in the class.

    Assignments

Assignments will be handed out in class. All assignments are also posted in ParentVUE and StudentVUE. If you miss class, you may get extra copies in class or print out assignments from StudentVUE. Assignments may also be completed online and emailed to the teacher. In the event we move to distance learning, Google Classroom and APEX Learning will be used.

    Grades

Grades are based on a points system.  Assignments are given points based on the difficulty, length, and importance of the assignment.  Final grades are determined by the percentage of points earned out of the total points assigned.  5% of the final grade is based on preparedness. The preparedness grade is based on regular checks for the required materials.

    Absences

If a student is absent, he or she is responsible for all work missed.  It may be turned in for full credit in accordance with school policy in the Student Handbook.  To find out what work was missed, students should check Mr. Wargo's website or check with a classmate.

    Electronics

Students will be issued a Chromebook from CMS. You may also use personal tablets and laptops in class. These can be valuable learning tools and may be used to complete nearly all readings and assignments. While I encourage their educational use, all responsibility for the safety and use of personal devices rests with the individual student and parents. Cell phones will not be used and are not permitted to be checked during class, per CMS policy.
