Here are some answers to some frequently asked questions:
1. Do you have birthday parties?
No, I do not have birthday parties for a varity of reasons. They include but are not limited to health resitrictions of students and cultural differences....I want every student to feel included at all times.
2. Do you go out for recess during the winter?
Yes, we go outside until -10 degrees. It is your responsiblity to provide appropriate clothing for your child for recess. I only have a limited number of extra items...many of which were depleted last year.
3. How sick is too sick for school?
If in doubt....please keep them home. General guidelines are as follows students should be fever free for 24 hours (without medicine) and have not thrown up in the last 24 hours before returning to school.
4. Can parents volunteer in the classroom?
Yes, parents are welcome. You can always come in and help with copies, and prep work. I also love having parents come in and read with students or practice letter and number fluency. If you have a special skill you'd like to offer....let me know. I often don't think of something and would love new ideas! I just ask that you don't distract from our learning.
5. Can students bring toys/devices to school?
I do not allow toys/devices from home in the classroom. There is too much risk of them being damaged. We have appropriate times during the school day/week when students will have free time to play and to use school supplied devices such as ipads for educational support.
6. What can I do to help my child at home?
One of the best things you can can do read with your child every night. Also practicing letter names, numbers, counting and writing their name is critical. These help form the base for all we do during kindergarten! The more confident they are the more they can accomplish.
