“A journey is a person in itself; no two are alike. And all plans, safeguards, policing, and coercion are fruitless. We find that after years of struggle that we do not take a trip; a trip takes us.” John Steinbeck
My own journey has been similar to Steinbeck’s quote. I find myself swept along my own educational/professional journey, which often has focused on providing the best quality of life for myself and our future citizens. I attained my bachelors of science degrees from the University of Idaho. I then moved to the the great state of Alaska to pursue my other passion in life, fishing. I started my teaching career at Palmer High School teaching a variety of subjects, and while doing so I attained my masters of education in reading instruction. During that time I also had the great opportunity to be in charge of the employability curriculum (work study) for students that needed more than the academic rigors high school provides. This began my next journey to a full time community based educator at the Next Step program in Palmer. I firmly believe that everyone in this world should be given the chance to take their own journey, yet I also know we all need support along the way. My goal is to provide the support and education for those who need functional life skills, and of course to have fun along the way.
