Someone’s fiancés stolen
Something borroweds author is an American author of several novels, her most popular being Something Borrowed. Emily Giffin attended the University of Virginia, and has written over ten major novels. Something Borrowed was published on March tenth 2005, and is a fiction and a romance novel. This novel takes place in modern day New York, and is about Rachel White and her struggle with being in love with her best friend Darcy’s fiancé and not wanting to ruin the friendship they have had since birth.
Rachel may be timid in this novel, but there are moments when she stands up for herself, and you can’t stop yourself from reading. Many times throughout the novel you think she will give up and let Darcy win, but she always gets back up and keeps pursuing what she wants most. Rachel is not only a good person, but she is kind and smart and fierce. She fights for Dexter and she stands up for herself. She tries to make people around her better and stronger. Rachel is the bravest because she made sense of things and always tried to make the best out of any situation.
There is a tough conflict to overcome in this novel. Rachel and Dexter had feelings for each other during college but were too afraid to do anything about them. Before Rachel or Dexter can act on their feelings for each other Rachel’s ‘Best Friend’ Darcy swoops in and steals Dexter from Rachel, and soon the two get engaged. On Rachel’s thirtieth birthday she and Dexter finally decide to act on their feelings, and for the summer they have a secret affair. By the end of the summer there is a pregnancy a heartbreak and a happily ever after.
The theme of this book is to speak up. You have to go after the things you love, and never stop fighting for them. It is very relatable to others because, many other people don’t have the courage to speak up and say what they really feel, and do what they want to do. A quote from this book helps explain the books theme “Maybe the thing to do after you roll the dice-and lose-is simply pick them up and roll them again.” (194). This quote explains that even if something you do doesn’t work out you have to keep trying and never give up.
If I were to rate this book I would give it five golden stars, and if you do read Emily Giffins most popular book you will agree. I believe this book will make you think of things you will want to do and say. This novel will help you stand up for yourself and go after the things you want in life. I would recommend this book to young Women, because it will help give courage to you. If you enjoy this book you should also checkout Something Blue, because it is a sequel of what happens to Darcy. Thank you for listening to my presentation, and I hope you check out Something Borrowed soon.
