Life Time of Love
A Walk to Remember was written by Nicholas Sparks and published by Grand Central Publishing in October 1999. This books genre is drama, or romantic novel. This story takes place in 1958 in Northern California. Landon didn’t like much about Jamie. Jamie was very religious and wasn’t like most girls her age. She was very reserved. But as the years go on and she grows up Landon sees her in a different light. As the two get closer they fall in love. But an event takes place which changes everything.
Jamie Sullivan is a very strong character in this book. She is very selfless. She does whatever she can to help others. Even when she’s going through life changing events others always come before her. She is perceived as an underdog at school. Not many people give her the time of day. She dedicates her life to school, church and the orphanage. Her lifelong dream is to have a big church wedding. That’s all she has planned for her future.
When Landon tells Jamie he is in love with her, he receives shocking news. Jamie has a rare Leukemia, and only has a few month to live. Landon is devastated with the news, but he tries to find ways to make the situation better. He decides to make her one life goal; to have a big wedding. Landon proposes to Jamie in her weakened health state, she accepts. Shorty the big day comes and she has her walk to remember.
The theme of this story is love is powerful. Even though Jamie is going through a living changing event, she gets to experience true love. She has the love of her life by her side no matter what. “You’ve got the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever met, and even though I took that for granted and wasn’t always nice to you, I wanted to let you know how I feel. I’ve never been so sorry in my life.” (pg 212). This works with the theme because, Landon realizes the mistake he made years ago and he truly feels bad. And wishes he had more time. \
I would rate this book a 3 out of 5. I liked the story line of the of this book but I wish some parts were written differently. I feel like they held high expectations to certain parts but once it got to the event it was very disappointingly written. I would recommend this story to anyone who loves romance novels or romantic tragedies.
