Mrs. Shari Knowles, M.Ed.

My Name is Shari Knowles. My father was in the United States Air Force (USAF), so I was born in the Philippines, and lived in Germany, Oregon, and Nevada as a child. My father retired in 1979 and we moved to Oregon where I graduated with honors from Willamette High School in Eugene, and received my Bachelor's degree from Oregon State University in Corvallis.

After graduating from college, I worked as an administrative assistant, office manager, and then moved into marketing, advertising, and graphic design. In 1998, I married Joe Knowles who was also in the USAF and was stationed in Clovis, New Mexico. We have three wonderful sons. When the USAF sent our family to Italy, I started substitute teaching and eventually was hired on as a special education aid. I did this for two years in Italy, then five more years in Japan.

During this time, I finally realized what I really wanted to do with my life; I want to be a teacher. I really love working with teens and pre-teens, watching them learn and grow, and knowing that I have played a key role in their lives. In the summer of 2011, the USAF moved us to Anchorage, Alaska where I was able to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. I now have a Master’s degree in secondary education through Wayland Baptist University.

My husband retired from the USAF after serving 30 years, and we are staying in Alaska. We love the outdoors and spend our free time camping, fishing, and ATV riding. I also enjoy doing various arts and crafts, singing karaoke, and I love math and I love to read.
