Mr. Stephen Martin

Born and raised in Alaska, I have a deep appreciation for the adventurous lives most of us live. The ultimate goal is for my students to come away from my class with improved problem solving skills which they will be able to translate into a healthy lifestyle. I also hope to impart on my students a sense of work ethic, honor, and self advocation. I'm excited to teach at Redington Jr/Sr High School and be part of this amazing community. The students, staff, and administration, create a phenomenal atmosphere that can't be duplicated anywhere else. This year will be my Third year coaching football for the Huskies, and I can't wait to see us build on the success of last season! I also coach crossfit, flag football, and science olympiad.

I hope everyone is as excited as I am for this adventure!

With us now embarking on a distance learning setup please log into our google classrooms to stay updated on important information as it becomes available, new assignments, extra credit opportunities, and exciting new activities!

I want to say that I apreciate all of your flexability, and patience with me as we go into remote educations. Google Classroom is the platform in which we will conduct class for the time being. I have added all students to my classroom, so they just need to get on google classroom and they should see their math class. Below is my distance education plan. If you have any needs or questions, feel free to email me.

Martin’s Distance Education Plan

The State of Alaska has closed school campuses through March 30, 2020, and potentially longer. I will be continuing to provide you with education through distance courses (google classroom) starting March 23, 2020. Please keep in mind that this is a dynamic situation and all this information is subject to change.

Redington’s weekly class schedule:
Mondays and Wednesdays: English and Social Studies
Tuesdays and Thursdays: Math and Science
Fridays: Elective Courses

PE:

Weekly activities logs where the student will answer questions for at least 3 activities in complete sentences. Extra credit is available for more than 3 activites and also if videos or pictures are included.

The general recommendation is for kids to get at least 60 minutes of moderate physical activity each day, however, please keep the following guidlines in mind:

1) No I AM NOT requiring 60 minutes of activity everyday. That is the recommended amount.

2) Warm Ups are not part of the activity. These you can tell me about in the preparation question. You should be doing warm ups for every activity!

3) If your workout is less than or equal to what we normally do in class as a warm up, it's not a workout. (some push-ups/sit-ups or walking a mile, etc)

4) Length of workouts vary. The shorter they are, the more intense they should be. Example of the shortest: 7 min of burpees (as fast as you can). Example of longest (20-30 min circuit with breaks built in-plus a warm up and cool down/stretch after)

5) Other activities like snowboarding or hiking are not workouts but are great physical activities so just let me know how long you went for! If you include your family let me know and I will add extra credit!

If you have specific questions please ask me :-)

I will post fun activity ideas throughout the week as well.

Parents,
If you would like to view the videos I have posted for you child, you can ask your child to pull them up on their computer for you as only students and employees have access to google classroom. They may be helpful for you in assisting your student with their work.
