My basic philosophy is that music education is preparation for life. Musical ensembles vary and offer different emphases on skills that lead to happy lives: self-discipline, teamwork, humility, and a willingness to learn. Modern education must strive to produce creative adults that demonstrate and use skills far beyond what we've traditionally been able to measure. Music is shown to both develop and heal the brain in all skill areas. It's an exciting time to be in the arts!
I have a "couple a" degrees but continuously pursue new learning. I am a Jill of All Trades, master of none, and I am perpetually curious about life. For fun I enjoy canning, beekeeping, water and snow sports, and I am continuously plotting how I can own horses. I also perform a bit: I enjoy steel drums with friends, piano and singing with my daughter, and I play drums competitively in the Crow Creek Pipe and Drum Corp.
