A comprehensive k-12 school counseling program is an essential and integral part of the overall educational process built on the belief that certain academic, career and personal/social objectives are attainable only when school counseling services are available for all students.
The school counseling program is coordinated with other educators incorporating a comprehensive curriculum.
The school counseling program assists students in acquiring and using lifelong learning skills through three broad and interrelated areas of student development: academic development, career development and personal/social development. More specifically, school guidance and counseling programs employ strategies to enhance academics, provide career awareness, develop employment readiness, encourage self-awareness, foster interpersonal communication skills and impart life success skills for all students.
Student growth and learning are developmental therefore, school counseling must be developmental and sequential.
