Enjoy.-Mid Term grades are Sept. 16.-Tri-M music honor society applications are due (with 2 letters of recommendation) to Mr. Lambert by Sept. 14. Here is an application: 2020-2021 Tri-M applications-Oct. Music Parent Booster Meeting is Oct. 1 at 7PM. Zoom will be sent out closer to that date.-Jazz band and Jazz choir for Advance band/choir groups starts up on Sept. 8 or 9. Both start at 6:45 AM-7:15 AM. Jazz band is Monday and Wednesday, Jazz choir isTuesday and Thursday.
Below is the schedule for music this year for at CMS classes (I have info for online students below). We are having period 1-3 on the first week and period 4-6 on the second week (then repeat it). Each class will be about 115 minutes periods. Percussion, Orchestras and Choirs are 1st semester and Woodwinds, Brass along with a Guitar and Theater class will be 2nd semester. Student will be graded only for that semester they are in class.
So, if a students signed up for 7th grade choir and wanted PE, they should get PE and choir 1st semester. Then they will have PE and a couple exploratory classes 2nd semester.

Here is my nice color coordinated schedule for both in class time/CMS online people and if we totally go Virtual schedule. This includes my Optional Zoom lesson schedule and also the break down of the Zoom Classes for CMS Online students and also if normal classes have to go Virtual. Reason for the divide is:
- Smaller classes for longer periods with a room that is being modified for class (open wall for more air, trying to get an air purifier for the class room as well).
- All classes are group (like my choirs are all one week and I can plan for just choir stuff not changing over as much).
- This will actually open up more opportunities for students to get another music class or theater. Example: if a student is in 8th grade choir and 8th grade woodwind, they can now at PE or exploratory class or even orchestra, theater or guitar to their schedule if they want. If a student want another class added, just email or call me and I will make the adjustment.
For students taking music as an CMS online class. Your classes will be every Friday as Zoom for the following times.
7th-8th grade choir students: 8-8:30 AM
7th-8th grade Woodwind students: 8:30-9 AM
Adv. Orchestra: 9-9:30 AM
6th-8th grade Percussion: 9:30-10 AM
There will be an open time after that as I might have to add more of them if more students move to CMS online learning. We will be working on material classroom music, music book and Smart Music files. For students that want Paper/pencil only assignments, there will be a zoom meeting on Friday in the early afternoon (I have not totally set the time as I am waiting for the schedules to settle out first). Students will be graded for the whole year as this goes on the whole year.
Example Question: What does my student do if they are Flute player and it is 1st semester? Do they get music?
Answer: They will be able to access a 30 minute zoom lessons with me at least once every other week (this is optional). I have 3 open times available to fit families schedule if they want. One set is mid-afternoon, one set is early evening and one set is Saturday. They will be geared to the students who choose to use it (they have to sign-up for it) and we will work on class material and small ensemble material. It will also be tied to Smart Music for help. I am trying to keep no more than 4-5 students on one zoom lesson at a time. None of these are graded. I am attaching the times to this email.
Example Question: My student is in orchestra. Will they have music during 2nd semester for strings?
Answer: Just like the example above, they can sign-up for 30 minute zoom lesson as well to keep playing till the end of the year.
Example Question: What happens if CMS shuts down due to Covid-19 for a period of time to be clean?
Answer: The in class students will still have their class during that normal class hour as a zoom lesson. Student can choose from 1 of 4 times (Monday-Thursday) and will need to attend once a week. An example will be we shut down school on a Monday and it is a Period 1-3 week. Then during 1st period (7:45AM-9:30ish), students will be Percussion class for 30 minutes during that time period. They will only need to attend 1, 30 minute zoom class (they can attend more) to keep at their skills. The times change a little in the week depending on family structure. Students will sign-up for this set-up during in school CMS time. I am attaching the time to this email.
Example Question: My child is planning to be in Jazz band (or Jazz choir)? Will they rehearse when they are on an “off” semester.
Answer: As long as we can do extra curriculum stuff, the answer is it will go all year.
Example Question: If my student does not have music till 2nd semester, do I have to pick-up material at the start of the year?
Answer: Yes please. I will need signature forms on the syllabus back as soon as possible as I will be needing for figure out who is doing what (I have to figure out every students requests). I will get the Brass and Woodwind players their stuff the first week of school.
Remember, a family can choose paper/pencil assignments instead of the zoom class if that is easier for their family.THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS SCHOOL YEAR.1. Coronavirus is an airborne disease and because of that singing/brass/woodwind instruments can spread it faster and over larger areas than just your normal sit down classroom. All the research I have seen says you need plenty of space, good cross ventalation and high ceiling to even make the room usable for music groups to work together. Masks can't be used for woodwinds and brass (they make a mask for this but I don't know how comfortable they are-link is down below). We will be making instrument covers with plastic bags for them to use in class. For singing, mask make it a little harder to breathe and to work on enouncations/pitch with it on (there is a resonator mask that is for choir which help-link is below). With choir, we are going be outside when we can to sing and we will use handbells and small project stuff in the room when the weather is not good.2. Percussion and strings are not as bad shape, but you still need space. Percussion have to share instruments/mallets alot and they will need to wash their hands coming in the room and after using the sticks. Strings just need space at this time. As long as they keep their equipment clean and don't share music/music stands/rosin/etc.... they can wear masks and still play. Of all my groups, this one would have the lowest concern factor for safety.3. Concerts and performances are up in the air. I am giving out a calendar as if it is normal, but we may not be able to actually hold a concert (with families). If that is the case and we are working on material, I will record the students and the "concert day" in class and send that out for people to listen to.So, here is what I am calling the COVID-19 MUSIC SYLLABUS. This in part of the school's plan for worst situation (but not to the point we are closing the school). I have to remind myself constantly that you are letting me work with your child. I cannot let them get hit or sick because of my personal feelings about how music should be taught. As much as I love teaching and working with students in an ensemble setting, there is no safe way at this point in time with this situation.
