Mark Dinkel, a lifelong Alaskan, is in his 23rd year of teaching (14 at WMS).  He earned a B.S. in Language Arts at Western Oregon University (1990) but is now Highly Qualified to teach Geography.  He enjoys Geography because of the creativity, diversity, and versitility the currciulum demands and offers.  Seventh grade Geography focuses on the Eastern Hemisphere with units on Africa, Europe, Middle East, and Southeast Asia.  Students will find that lessons will often focus on the issues affecting the countries they are studying.  Mark and his wife, Lesley, have 7 children, ranging from 7-19 years old.
