High School History

Welcome to the high school history department at Susitna Valley! Futurists predict four skills will be necessary in the 21st century: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. The study of history is a perfect platform from which to practice these skills. We can now use the internet to google dates and facts, so they are not as relevant to the study of history as they once were. Instead, its history’s multiple points of view that must be analyzed and grappled with through writing, debate, discussion, and reenactment.

This year marks my twentieth as a teacher. I am lucky to have spent most of it at Su Valley. We truly are a family, and my colleagues are some of the smartest people I know. Our hallways are lined with art and sun fills our classrooms. And, of course, we have amazing, remarkable students and parents. We are so fortunate to work, learn, and play in this special place.
