Hosted by the Mat-Su Borough, the community had an opportunity to hear first-hand about the newest high school, slated to open in the fall of 2015. Attending the meeting was Caleb, a student at Iditarod Elementary, who made his own drawing of the new school. He hopes to enroll when the new school opens.

We are enjoying fun and busy times at Sherrod Elementary. Every day is an important day for your child’s education. At Sherrod, we provide many opportunities for children before, during, and after school. There is always something going on if your child is interested. Be sure to talk with your child’s teacher about all of the unique things that are happening.
We are rapidly approaching the Alaska State Standards Based Assessment (SBA). We are scored on the Alaska School Performance Index (ASPI). Last year Sherrod was a five star school based on this metric. Five stars is the highest ranking that a school can receive. This ranking is based on test scores and student attendance. Thanks to the parents getting their children to school, the dynamic instruction of our teachers, and the hard work of our students we continue to enjoy tremendous success. Please make sure that you keep April 1-3 in mind as these are the days that those assessments will take place.
We encourage you to stop by our school any time. We pride ourselves on being a true community school and we cannot succeed without you. Thanks for all you do for your children and please let me know if there is anything that I can do to make your child’s experience at Sherrod more rewarding.
Please feel free to contact me anytime.
