Certified Applicant Pool Hiring Process (certified)

  1. Application Deadline:  We accept certified applications year round.  We recommend that you have completed an online application thru AppliTrack no later than July 1st, of the year prior to beginning employment. To 'Start An Application For Employment' Click here.    Or from the Employment Opportunities links, 'Start/Update an Application For Employment', then 'Start an Application...' or Continue/Modify Application...' if you have already begun your application.  Remember that Mat-Su hosts and participates in various job fairs throughout the year so make sure to check our website for other important dates.
  2. Salary Placement:  New Hires may be allowed up to three years of teaching experience for placement on the salary schedule.
  3. Listings of Openings:  We do all of our hiring from an applicant pool and do not post a comprehensive list of openings.  As other positions become available for out-of-district hire, the applications of eligible candidates are reviewed by the principal and interviews are conducted. The Mat Su School District continues to recruit Related Service Providers throughout the year, such as Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and School Psychologists.  Please contact Janice Williams at 907-746-9242 or Janice.Williams@matsuk12.us if you are interested in attaining a position in any of these areas.
  4. Eligible for Hire:   The Mat-Su Borough School District does not have an established eligible to hire list.  Each candidate is given a score based on their completed application and prescreening interview.  Candidates will then be rank ordered based on that final score and a listing and ranking will be made available to principals when positions become vacant.
  5. Prescreening Process:  A prescreening interview is required for all applicants.  Once you have submitted a completed application you will be contacted by the Human Resources Department for an interview appointment.  We are unable to provide transportation to Alaska but do attend the ATP (Alaska Teacher Placement) job fair in April.  We will be conducting prescreening interviews at the job fair.
  6. Alaska Teaching Certificate:  Applicants can be considered  for employment prior to attaining an Alaska Teacher Certificate.  However, Alaska Law requires that a teacher must have a valid Alaska Teaching Certificate or yellow card to be paid at the teacher rate. The yellow card mentioned is postcard size and indicates the date the State received a valid and complete application. This allows an applicant to sign a contract and be processed as a certified teacher.  The above information applies to all certificated positions such as counselors, librarians, administrators, related services and school nurses.
  7. Highly Qualified: Applicants must meet the highly qualified requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act.
