Meadow Lakes School staff and students will be celebrating Read Across America and Dr. Seuss on March 3-6, 2014. During our week of celebration we will be showing our school spirit each day by wearing the following: Monday is wear a crazy hat, Tuesday is dress in red and white, Wednesday is crazy hair day, and Thursday is crazy/mismatched sock day.
Meadow Lakes Elementary will be participating in the Healthy Futures Spring Challenge this February, March, and April. Students participate by completing and recording a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity at least three days per week for four consecutive weeks (outside of PE). Opening in the fall of 2014 are two new permanent facilities for two schools: Mat-Su Day School and Valley Pathways, both special mission schools in the Mat-Su Borough School District. No school for students at most MSBSD schools on Monday and Tuesday. Parents, please check with your school for times for P/T Conferences. Students at Big Lake, Houston Middle, and Houston High will attend school Tuesday as a make-up day.
Inclement weather required a school closure on January 23, 2014 at Big Lake Elem, Houston Middle, and Houston High schools. This was the second school closure and exceeds the one snow day built into the calendar. February 18th is a school day for students at these three schools. For MSBSD students in grades 5-12 and staff, we will participate in the survey sponsored by the Alaska Association of School Boards. You may read more in Mr. Gene Stone's letter, download a brochure, and more. MSBSD Superintedent, Dr. Deena Paramo, says, "In Mat-Su, we put the data to good use. Through the survey data, we learn more about our schools to help inform our decisions."
For excellence in budget presentation, the Association of School Business Officials Internaional recognizes the MSBSD. Earning this award, the District submitted its 2013-2014 budget for a rigorous review based on stringent criteria. Read more....
Hosted by the Mat-Su Borough, the community had an opportunity to hear first-hand about the newest high school, slated to open in the fall of 2015. Attending the meeting was Caleb, a student at Iditarod Elementary, who made his own drawing of the new school. He hopes to enroll when the new school opens.
