Randy Magner joins the CTHS staff with many years of teaching, coaching and industry experience. He has taught professionally for 30 years, including 23 years in the Mat-Su District. Assignments have included teaching physical education to all levels from kindergarten through university students, life sciences, physical sciences, and career education. He has coached football, both boys and girls basketball, track and field, and baseball. Randy attended several colleges, receiving an AA Degree from Ventura Community College in California, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Adams State University in Colorado, a Teachers Certification from California State Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, California, and a Master of Science Degree from Brigham Young University in Utah. In the industrial fields Mr. Magner has built and managed a commercial fitness center, operated his own athletic conditioning business, supervised summer labor crews for BP in the Prudhoe Bay oilfields, written and taught a spinal health program for North Slope employees, operated heavy equipment, and commercially fished. He has been happily married to his wife Cynthia for 36 years and they have six children.
Mr. Magner was a member of the design staff for the Mat-Su Career and Tech High School. His input helped develop these facilities to teach pathways in fitness careers. The concepts and techniques of physical training that he has developed have helped many students achieve their personal and professional goals, including four of his own children who went on to receive full athletic scholarships to college.
Randy is excited to be working with students who share his passion for physical fitness and want to enter those fields as a career. The demand for people who can help others achieve optimal health or performance levels through physical fitness is expanding. Careers in those areas can be exciting and rewarding.
This year Mr. Magner draws from his experience maintaining personnel safety in industry and coaching to design and teach classes in Industrial Safety. He is also developing the new classes Introduction To Emergency Services and Emergency Trauma Technician for those students interested in pursuing a career in emergency services.
