If your child was born outside the United States, native language is a language other than English, an American Indian, Alaska Native, and/or native resident of outlying areas (Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, or Northern Mariana Islands) who comes from an environment where a language other than English has had a significant impact on the individual’s level of English language proficiency, he/she may be eligible for services through the English Language Learner (ELL) Program.  The Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District’s ELL Program is designed to enhance language proficiency for success in the classroom.  Services may include English language instruction, assistance with development of English language skills, or “sheltered” core curriculum courses.  If you want more information, please contact the ELL Program at 907-761-4065.
