Families In Transition
A McKinney-Vento Homeless Education
Assistance Act Program

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance act (M-V) is an Act of Congress that provides preschool-aged and school-aged children certain rights on protections.  These rights and protections are established to provide them with a source of stability and normalcy in otherwise chaotic and frightening circumstances.  Studies show that school stability supports academic achievement and mental and emotional security.

It is the Mission of the Mat-Su Borough School District to develop citizens for a global society by inspiring students to think, learn, achieve, and care.  This mission includes students experiencing homelessness and support for these students is provided through our Families In Transition Program.
