Indian Education Program

In 1972, the Indian Education Program (IEA) was developed, as a result of the passage of the Indian Education Act, Title IV of P.L. 92-318  The program provides academic services and activities for Alaska Native and American Indian students attending school in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District.

The IEA program started with approximately 100 students in the early 1970's and has grown to over 1100 students today.  The IEA program currently has teachers and tutors in four middle/high schools.

Today, the program is funded through Title VII of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) law.  Funding for the Indian Education Program is based upon the number of eligible students who are enrolled in our school district.
